You can choose a neutral shade that makes the walls fade out and become unnoticeable, allowing you to draw attention to other parts of the room instead of just the size.

Nothing is worse than walking into a small room with giant piece of furniture and not being able to move around safely and comfortably. This means if you are moving from a larger space to something smaller, you may need to downgrade your furniture too. There are plenty of pieces that are a smaller scale that provide everything you need as far as seating and living comfortably.
One of the most important things you can do to make a small space work for you is to keep clutter to a minimum. What may have seemed like things to personalize a space and make it cozy when you had more room will now seem like it is taking up space and making things crowded? It is better to just choose a few special pieces that accent the space. Most of all, keep non-decorative clutter at bay. Throw away anything you do not need and make sure your space is kept tidy.
Finally, be creative with your organization. Sometimes the toughest part of living in a small space is storing everything you actually need to live. Remember you can build upwards, so if you have a pantry or closet, put shelves as high as possible. Also remember that things can have multiple purposes, so shop for furniture pieces that can serve as storage, as well as their original purpose.
