Treatment Alternatives For Follicular Cysts

You have just been to the medical doctor for abdominal pain. After a pelvic exam and an ultrasound, the doctor has rendered a diagnosis. Armed with a prescription for the discomfort, you are scheduled to come back in two weeks, unless the pain becomes severe or you experience abnormal bleeding. You are now on-line looking for answers. So, what are follicular cysts and the treatment options?

Naturally, you hate to be left in the dark, specially regarding your wellbeing. If you are a young woman who wants kids in the future, it is specially worrisome when the medical doctor mentions anything negative concerning your ovaries. What you need is an explanation, in understandable terms, and the treatment choices available to you.

During a normal menstrual cycle a dominant follicle would develop during the first couple of weeks. The fluid-filled sac would then rupture to release the egg for potential fertilization. Then again, from time to time the sac will not break and continue to fill with fluid.

In various cases, follicular cysts are nothing to worry about. In truth, nearly all women have probably had one, at one time or another, and not even been aware of the problem. A follicular cyst will normally resolve itself in a month or two. On the other hand, if the cyst grows too large, it could twist the ovary and cause severe pain. So, if this happens to you, what are your treatment options?

Hormonal therapy: If you are prone to recurring follicular cysts, the medical doctor might recommend birth control pills. The hormones slow the production of estrogen, which technically feeds the cyst. Nonetheless, if you are trying to conceive a child, this treatment would probably not be your first choice.

Surgery: In severe cases of follicular cysts, an operation is a viable choice. But, any operation is not without inherent risks. Not only is it costly and potentially painful, there is always the risk of scar tissue that can reduce the chances of pregnancy. Additionally, there is no guarantee that the cysts will not come back in the near future.

Holistic therapy: If you are not comfortable with the initial 2 options, holistic therapy may be the answer for removing your follicular cysts. The treatment is natural, which means no pregnancy preventing hormones; it is not costly or painful; and lots of women can attest to being free of future follicular cysts making use of only the natural holistic approach.

Now you know the basics of follicular cysts of your ovaries and the treatment choices that are available to you. It is your own body, your very own decision. But, for several women, holistic treatment is the natural solution, without affecting the ability to get pregnant in the future.

Most of the women who have had success with this approach only tried it after years of suffering from ovarian cysts, and being let down by conventional medicine. Don't make the same mistake. If you are suffering with ovarian cysts, try the natural approach sooner rather than later - you won't regret it
