Gases are one of the most invasive poisons in the body. Inhaling them would trigger results in minutes. They are difficult to ward off, especially when the need to breathe is a natural reaction of humans deprived of oxygen. That is why gas cartridges and gas cylinders have emphatic warnings, often written in bold red letters, in the face of the product. Compromising the integrity of the gas cylinders and gas cartridges are an absolute no-no. A leak could affect the health of anyone in the general area. Thus, manufacturers of these kinds of products take extra measures to insure that leaks and other structural design failures are avoided. They are required to abide by a strict quality control procedure from the start of the production process until the transfer of the product to end-users. There is no shortage of warning that the products be used in accordance with the directions on the label. Relying on the information written on the label is a safe bet. Improper use of the product is a risk they have sought to avoid. Further, most gas cartridges and cylinders are not to be stored or placed anywhere where heat or fire is a constant presence. This is because most gases are flammable and even the tiniest application of heat could set off an explosive result. When gases are ignited, the clear and present danger of damage is difficult to avoid. Hence, gaseous substances are required to be secured for safekeeping in a well-ventilated area, away from children and wildlife, and distant from any possible contaminants. Store them in an area where they are allowed to dissipate in case of leaks since most gases are asphyxiants and can cause death in a matter of seconds without affording the victim the opportunity to exit the situation. So, the consumer must wear the necessary gloves, goggles and breathing apparatus, which are necessary for stronger and more pungent gases, for protection. Storing some types of gases would require expert assistance because of their sensitivity to outside elements and their high levels of toxicity. Never hesitate to take advantage of helpful resources to familiarize yourself with any gas cylinders and cartridges you may utilize. Disposal of empty gas cartridges and gas cylinders must also be handled with equally meticulous care. This is because even residual gases can still be harmful if released accidentally near a person or animal. Thus, manufacturers include in their label the proper disposal procedures for their products after use. Most of them encourage their consumers to return the empty or unused cylinders and cartridges to the suppliers. If not, it would still be wise to drop off the empty cylinders to your neighborhood scrap metal recycling plant. Storing them with unused gas containers would still pose a risk to the consumer. Inappropriate handling and disposal of these containers would pose further risk to the user and the environment. What is the point of enjoying the benefits of these products if done so at the expense of the environment and personal health? The cost of ruining health and the environment is immeasurable, and can fortunately be avoided through proper use of any type of gas.
