Tips to take care of your skin include: know your skin type, ensure that your skincare rituals conform to your skin type, follow a healthy diet plan, drink plenty of water, and keep your skin protected from the sun.

One excellent asset one can be proud of is healthy skin. Every year, the number of skin care products on the market increases as more people desire to have younger-looking and healthier skin. It is not sufficient that you select the most appropriate skincare products, but you should also have the awareness to look after your skin. Below are some tips to follow:

Know your skin type

To take care of your skin properly, you should, first of all, understand what type of skin you have. Your skin may be one of these different skin types: oily, dry, sensitive, normal and combination of these four. Knowing your own skin type can help you choose the best skin care products for you from among the many skin care products sold in the market.

Tailor your skin care regimen to your skin type

The skincare routines that you follow daily must take into consideration your skin type. For people with normal skin, go for a gentle foaming facial wash and use a lotion made especially for normal skin types as your moisturizer. People with oily skin types can cleanse their skin with an astringent cleanser right after washing. As for people with dry skin, a cream cleanser and cream lotion are great for their skin. If you have a combination skin type, use a gentle facial wash in the morning and a creamy facial wash at nighttime. People with sensitive skin should always make sure that all skincare products used are hypoallergenic beginning with a hypoallergenic cleanser and followed by a fragrance-free moisturizer or lotion.

Take in nutritious foods

What you eat affects the health and appearance of your skin. That is why, you must ensure that your diet is healthy. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and, as much as possible, avoid eating processed foods.

Hydrate yourself

You can keep your skin moisturized without worrying about it drying if you always keep yourself hydrated. Thus, make sure to get at least 64 ounces of water per day. If you regularly drink caffeinated drinks, then you might have to drink more water. Also, it is good to hydrate yourself after strenuous physical activit.

Protect your skin from the sun

The sun's rays can damage your skin. Too much sun exposure can cause skin cancer. It also dries out and irritates the skin, in which afterwards becomes irritated, inflamed and red. Therefore, it is important that you limit your exposure to the sun or protect your skin from it. Apply a sunscreen lotion with sufficient sun protection factor (SPF) or at least SPF 30 when going out under the sun. Also, make sure to find a sunscreen especially for the face as sunscreen formulated for the body is usually heavier and may cause skin on the face to become oilier and breakout. For extra protection, keep your skin covered with wide-brimmed hats, long-sleeved tops, and long pants.

The health and appearance of your skin are the evidence of your effort in taking care of your skin. Choosing the correct skincare routine and the appropriate skincare products for your skin are equally important.
