There are thousands of people who suffer from sleep panic disorder and there is a common myth that this is caused by excessive dreaming. What is usually the cause is a panic or anxiety attack. Current studies have actually shown that about half of all people who suffer from anxiety panic symptoms also suffer from nocturnal anxiety attacks or sleep panic attacks. Although in most cases these attacks happen during the day. Now even if only 10.2% of all panic attacks take place during the night time, patients find themselves more affected by this to the point that they are very afraid of going to sleep due to the possibility of an anxiety attack or heart attack that might occur during this time. Research has also shown that nocturnal anxiety attacks is not due to nightmares or dreams. They have found that your panic attacks actually occur during your early sleep period while your dreams occur during the second half of the night, which is why you do not recall your dreams many times. To date, there are several sleep panic disorders and an example of this would be Pavor nocturnes. This disorder is a common one among children and takes place when the child suddenly wakes up crying. This is normally accompanied by strong anxiety symptoms and vegetative symptoms while generally being escorted with sweating, short breathing and heart palpitations. As for other possible causes of having nocturnal anxiety attacks, this would normally be due to extreme anxiety symptoms, heart frequency and blood pressure - although studies state that the precise cause for sleep panic attacks is not yet certain. Changes in the parasympathotonic system due to autonomic dysfunction could be a cause for this disorder; as well as an increase of CO2-concentration. Doctors have determined that chemical imbalances due to biochemical imbalances in the brain may be a cause of nocturnal anxiety attacks. Studies have shown this to be a major player in setting off sleep panic attacks. Because of this, people are therefore encouraged to get tested. There are other reasons that may be causing your sleep panic disorder such as stress, sleep apnea, or heredity - which is best described as irregular sleeping. Sleep apnea is one of the medical problems combined with stress that causes some major anxiety attacks. What has taken place during your day is usually the cause of your sleep panic attacks. If you are now experiencing anxiety attacks or if you feel that you may be prone to them it is best to avoid caffeine and alcohol. You should also eliminate drugs and if possible quit smoking as long as it does not interfere with your life. With regards to the possible cures for your sleep panic disorder, these may include herbal cure for anxiety such as L-theanine, Passion Flower, Seredyn and Valerian. Others options to treat this disorder may include homeopathic remedies for panic attacks such as relaxation techniques, deep breathing, aromatherapy and daily exercise.
