If you are looking to record for a big sound when your band rehearses or when you go to a concert then you may want to consider one of the new small digital recorders that are on the market. That's because some of the recorders that have been available for the last five or six years now offer you the ultimate in versatility as well as functionality in small, portable digital packages. A number of these stereo recorders are terrific concepts that are brilliantly executed. Some offer extremely high quality stereo recording in both two channel as well as four channel modes in devices that weighs in at only four ounces. Scores of well known musicians love their portable recorders and rave about it on various sites on the Internet. A feature that many of its owners absolutely love that's featured on some recorders is thier one button recording ability. Offering settings such as Auto Gain Control and an Auto Start function, these recorders give you the versatility of being just a push button away from making recordings that you will treasure for a lifetime. Before you buy one, though, there are a handful of questions you'll need answered. What Sort of Power Do They Need? Check out the type of power that they need and how long the batteries last. Some need only two AA to provide quite a few hours of continual operation. Some come with the ability to use AC power as well. And one thing that really comes in hand is a good backlit display. You'll want this so that you can use the device easily in virtually any situation. How Many Formats Does It Record In? Do you want to record your musica as a WAV file? How about as a MP3? Make sure that what you buy has the ablility to record in the format that you'd like before you spend any money. One feature that you'll probably want is the ability to both play back through your headset and download your recordings into either a PC or a Mac computer. And you should be able to easily edit the recordings. How Many Mics Does It Have? Some portable digital recorders have only two mics while others have four. Four is usually better than two. Great For Musicians Although these little machines are wonderful if you want to make podcasts or use it to interview someone or record a seminar, they are especially appreciated by musicians. A number of them even a bass tuner and metronome built into the recorder.
