I was recently at a holiday party with several members of my extended family. While the occasion was festive and the atmosphere reflected it, there was more than one occasion in which we did something most families do quite often; we argued with each other. We were exchanging gifts. My brother had gotten his son a gorgeous Movado watch, and you could tell form both of their faces how much joy it brought the son as well as the father. And for no reason whatsoever, a distant cousin of ours, a man a similar age as my brother and myself, felt the inexplicable need to ask how much the Movado watch had cost. And again, this cousin felt some inexplicable need to show-off his lack of tact by exclaiming "you know you could have just gotten a replica for fifteen bucks?" And while that Movado watch my brother bought his son has a high probability of lasting from decade to decade, there is the possibility that, like with anything, something could go wrong. Now, the next time you find a replica watch being sold with a warranty, it will be by all accounts, the first time ever. It's Illegal That was how the argument ended in our household. Replica watches, just like counterfeit money, is illegal. And what kind of father buys his child a holiday gift that breaks the law? After considering the issue, the advantages of authentic luxury watches were clear.
