Are You Stupid?

If a stranger walked up to you on the street and said, "You are stupid! You are the most stupid person I have ever met." How would that make you feel?

Some people would simply dismiss it, thinking the person who said it was having a really rough day. Other people might take offense and answer back defensively. But what if someone who was not a stranger said the same thing to you?

Suppose someone close to you or a relative said that you were stupid. How would you react? It might hurt your feelings if you realized that's what they thought of you. A statement like that, and others, could even cause you to think less of yourself.

All of us want to be loved and thought well of. But not everyone is going to love us and think well of us. What is most important is not what others think about you, but what you think about yourself.

Your opinion of yourself ought to come from God's opinion of you. The more you accept and believe who God made you and who you really are, the less people are going to upset you and hurt your feelings. And, in turn, the bigger your capacity to love others will be without fear of someone rejecting you, or hurting you.

As a born again believer, consider just some of what the Bible says you now are and have:

Nothing can separate you from God's love.

You have all spiritual blessings.

You are holy and blameless in His sight.

You are literally His child.

He has accepted you.

You have been redeemed.

You have been forgiven.

He has abounded wisdom and prudence toward you.

You are righteous, right in God's eyes.

You have been reconciled unto Him, restored to His favor.

You have been given eternal life.

You have His gift of holy spirit inside, which makes you connected with Him.

You are no longer separated; there is no distance between you and God.

That's a brief review of just some of what the Bible says about you as a born again one. Do you accept it and believe it?

The more you accept and believe who God made you and who you really are, the less people are going to upset you and hurt your feelings. And, in turn, the bigger your capacity to love others will be, without fear of someone hurting you or rejecting you.

On the other hand, the more you consistently feel self conscious and defensive, the more it feels like everyone is against you and attacking you. You will feel like you have to explain everything because deep down, you believe that people don't really see your heart.

You have to believe who you really are. The bigger you see who you really are, and the more that you burn that into your heart, the bigger your capacity to love others will be, without being afraid of someone hurting you, or rejecting you.

Jesus Christ was not defensive; but he was decisive because he knew who he was. Because he knew who he was, he loved others without fear of being rejected. Many people don't realize that they are afraid to love.

The Bible tells us that at one point, Jesus stood before the very people that he loved, ministered to, and brought healing and deliverance like the world had never seen before. He stood before them after being savagely beaten by the Roman soldiers. What he heard from the people he loved and had helped was, "Crucify him; crucify him!"

He was indeed crucified. He had been betrayed by one of the twelve, and almost everyone had forsaken him. And yet, hanging there in incredible pain, he still uttered the words, "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do."

If anyone ever had the right to take things personally and react defensively, it was Jesus Christ. But he knew and believed who he was. The question is, do we believe who we are; who God has made us in the new birth?

Know and believe who the Bible says that you are. When you do, someone may call you stupid, and it might hurt a bit. But you will not take it personally to the point of second guessing who you really are. You are not stupid; you are God's child, and you are everything the Bible says that you are.
