The question of how many directories should I submit my articles to would seem to be easy to answer wouldn't it? The more the merrier seems like that would be the right answer. If you're writing articles mainly to drive traffic than you shouldn't be too concerned about similar content. In this case the more directories your articles go to the better off you'll be. This makes sense because the fewer directories you're in the fewer chances of people seeing the articles. The goal is to increase traffic and not to limit it. You should also take into consideration who you are writing for. If you're writing for search engine optimization it's crucial you write articles of similar content targeting different keyword phrases. The more articles you write with unique targeted phrases the better you increase your chances for a higher rank with the search engines. You give yourself a much better chance of doing this by submitting articles to many directories. However time becomes an issue with doing this. For many people simply writing a few articles per week is a challenge. To have to rewrite them and manually submit to the directories for SEO may seem impossible. The good news is there are submission services you can use. You'll also want to think about the link to the article. Submission services want articles of certain lengths. You usually can't go wrong with articles from 400 to 500 words. You then can manually submit one article of this length to a few of the top directories. This ideas is better than just submitting to one directory. You can also write articles that are approximately 250 words and submit them directories that take shorter articles. These are also perfect to add to your own blog. In doing this you can bookmark your blog post. You can then use it as search engine bait. But you will no doubt determine what system works best for you depending on the purpose of your article. One last thing about your articles: Don't forget to put a resource box at the bottom of each with a link to your site. This is a crucial element to your articles to aid in promotion.
