Appliance Repair For Your Oven

Sooner or later your major appliances are going to need some repair work. Ovens endure a lot of work, unless of course you prefer takeout every night. But if you need Maytag oven repair or repair for any other brand, check out these common problems and their solutions.

Problem: Delayed ignition on gas ovens. The main advantage of a gas oven over an electric one is that it rapidly heats up. If the ignition is taking longer than usual, the problem could be a blocked ignition port. If this is the problem, it is best to have a professional take a look at it and unclog it for you. Delayed ignition has the potential to cause a fire or explosion and damage other parts. If your ignitor is faulty, it may need to be replaced.

Problem: A gas odor when the oven is not on. The reason is mostly likely due to a defective or damaged gas valve which causes gas emissions. This problem needs to be taken care of immediately because gas fumes are poisonous.

Problem: Gas burners do not light up fully. Without proper lighting, your food will not cook as efficiently. The main cause is a blocked cross-over port. These ports are located on the burner tube and can be cleaned with an old toothbrush or wire brush. Also make sure the burners themselves are not clogged or dirty.

Problem: The oven burner does not light. When you turn a gas oven on, the pilot light should light up. It is located at the back of the oven. The problem could be a dirty pilot light electrode that needs cleaning.

Problem: The top element of an electric stove doesn't work. If the top element, which is the burner, only partially heats up or not at all, it might be a burned out receptacle. The receptacle is what the element plugs into. If the problem isn't with the receptacle, then the element itself might need replacing. A third cause could be a broken infinite switch. The infinite switch is what allows the user to choose a heat setting.

Problem: My oven doesn't work at all. If you have an electric stove, make sure it's plugged in. If you're using an extension cord, eliminate it and try the oven without it. Always check to see if there is a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker. Finally, test the outlet for a current.

Some of these problems can be very serious and unless you know what you're doing, you could make the problem worse. If you are trying to repair a part yourself, make sure everything is unplugged and turned off. When all else fails, it's time to call the Maytag oven repair man. One solution to making your repair a bit cheaper is to purchase a replacement part yourself and have a repair man install it for you. When it comes to appliance repair, always play it safe!
