This time of year usually means one thing- eating! No I'm only kidding, it means a few things, including family, friends, vacation, gifts, tradition, celebration, and eating. Our calendars tend to flood with more social obligations than usual around the end of November, early December, so it's important that we pick and choose the events we really want to attend.
1. The Christmas lunch with friends
In a busy city like London, this is going to require lots of advanced notice. Big groups can be difficult to organize and restaurants book up quickly. If one of you is willing to take the initiative and reserve a table for a set menu afternoon lunch, then it's a great way to see all of your friends before you take off for the holidays.
2. The office party
This one is hard to avoid. No matter how much your colleague may be annoying you, or how hungover you are from the night before, you kinda have to go to your office Christmas party. Bigger companies tend to do over the top dues, with awards, catered, seated dinners, and live dj's. Smaller companies keep it simple with a long lunch and secret Santa's. The nicest part of these events is they give people who work together all week the chance to spend some relaxed, social time together.
3. The friend's house party
Everyone around this time of year wants to throw a Christmas party at their house. It's a very generous and thoughtful gesture and is a great way to take a break from the winter cold. There's nothing like a well organized house party, where friends can enjoy each others company, drink, nibbles and good music without having to worry about line-ups, spending money, and last call. These events do tend to stack up though, so if your liver needs a break- give it one, they'll be a lot more to come!
4. The family Christmas party
Depending on your family, this day may be spend getting smashed on eggnog, or curling up around the fire, opening gifts and chatting over hot cocoa. Either way family Christmas parties tend to be relaxed and comfortable. They are often the type of event that you can wear your comfy slippers to and cosy up to your favourite aunt or grandmother and catch up on everything you've missed over the last six months.
No matter what the event, guests should come in good cheer and good outfits. Get out your best Christmas sweater, your favourite party dress, or your shiniest cufflinks, because it's going to be a festive season.
