Planning a vacation for the long sunny days of summer is one of the best ways to overcome the winter doldrums, and memorable Colorado River raft trips in the Grand Canyon are among the best options. This can actually can be the best time for you to reserve one of these trips, as there are strict restrictions on the number of people that are allowed to go white water rafting in the Grand Canyon - and those spots are likely to fill up fast. In fact, at least one year of advanced notice is required to book an outing with many outfitters, so timing really is crucial.

Before making a reservation, it's always smart to make a list of your desires and needs. With some outfitters, the upper limit for a group expedition is 14 people, and minimum allowable ages range from 8 to 12 depending on the length of your trip. Some exceptions may be made for younger children when they are part of a family group, but this is one of the details that needs to be discussed with the expedition company.

Since packages range in length from three days to two weeks or more and include a vast array of memorable activities, you should first decide on reservation dates, how long your raft trip will last, which activities you want to include, if any of you have special physical or dietary needs, and a number of other considerations. One of the most attractive aspects of a Grand Canyon rafting trip is that it can be as relaxed or as strenuous as you like. Experienced rafters can opt for week-long trips through rough waters with rugged off-river hikes along canyon trails. Those looking for a more restful vacation can raft the slower-moving rapids and swim in sandy riverside beach areas, while still enjoying the magnificent views and majestic heights of the canyon.

The Grand Canyon is 277 miles long and ranges 2400 to 7000 feet in elevation, offering activities and vistas for every taste. An average day will consist of three to five hours of rafting, interspersed with hiking and exploration for the more active members of the group. Climbing through side canyons with rough terrain and steep overlooks may be included in these hikes. Of course, campers are always accompanied by experienced and helpful guides whose primary interest is to ensure safe enjoyment for visitors, making these side adventures exhilarating but secure.

Those who prefer less daring activities can spend their time at the camp, relaxing and chatting with new friends or enjoying a delicious meal. Others may decide to take a guided donkey ride or short sightseeing walks to one of the many scenic overlooks. As long as you make your plans on time, there is a Colorado River raft trip to fulfill your every expectation of an unforgettable vacation, whatever your tastes or time limitations.
