Everyone's life holds a variety of phases and events that are significant and your child's life is no exception. Things that you went through and that children around you experience may seem like no big deal, but as your child encounters each of these events, they will be making memories you will treasure forever. If celebrated in just the right way by the family, your child is likely to look back on these memories with happiness and joy. These special moments provide you with an opportunity to start family traditions that can one day be passed on to grandchildren and great grandchildren. If you want to start family traditions and give your children a boost in self-confidence and let them know how special they are to you, plan ahead for these childhood milestones. When you schedule your child's first visit to a dentist, celebrate the day with a lunch afterward to celebrate no cavities. If you are visiting a dental professional for the first time, you can recognize the day with a movie or short shopping trip. These exciting events can take the edge off of future visits and once your child is an adult, they may continue to deal with doctor anxiety by doing something comforting following their visit. When the time comes to take your child to the barber or hair salon, it can be a scary event. Some parents trim their child's hair at home for a few years before they take them in for a professional cut. It can be scary for a little one when a stranger cuts their hair. Other children are fine with the haircut and handle it like troopers. Regardless of how nervous or excited your child may be, be sure to take photographs of the event and save a lock of hair from the first salon visit. The first day of a school is a big deal for kids and families everywhere. Kids are usually more excited than they are nervous, but be sure to speak with them beforehand to get an idea of what they are feeling. Spend some time shopping for clothes and supplies together and take the opportunity to discuss how going to school will feel. Kids are often excited about new experiences that allow them to be independent, but they also need to know you support them through their changes. Once they are attending school, it will feel like just s short time until they are moving from grade to grade. For parents, the time often seems to fly by. Recognize their advancement from grade to grade as a special accomplishment. Kids should feel as if they are growing and changing throughout the years and feel as if they are in control of their life. Should you choose to hold your child back a grade, use sensitivity to deal with the matter and try to help them understand it will be beneficial in the long run? Finally, do not forget to celebrate those teenage milestones, just because your adolescent is not the bubbling pile of joy they once were. Recognize things like first dates and drivers licenses with parties, cards, photos and dinners out with the family.
