What Were The Most Fashionable Boots 2010?

One of the hottest words in fashion is one that is easy to say, easy to pronounce and hard to forget: Ugg. For the last few years, Ugg boots have been everywhere, equally popular among teenagers, ladies, and even celebrities. So, what makes these boots so popular and fashionable? The answer lies in a combination of trendiness, comfort, and practicality.

Ugg boots are all about the sheep. They are constructed with a woolen liner, for warmth and comfort in the boot, and a sheepskin exterior. The origin of the boot was with the sheepherders in places like Australia, who needed a highly comfortable boot for long hours spent on their feet. It gained popularity in the United States initially with surfers, who valued the boot's instant warmth. Now, they can be found on the feet of kids in grade schools, all the way up to senior citizens.

Most owners of Ugg boots will tell you the main reason they like the boot is for the comfort. The interior of the boot sole is ensconced with leather, and many patrons prefer to wear Ugg boots without socks. There is also extra room for the toes in Ugg boots, making it easy to wear no matter what size or shape your foot is.

The stylishness of the boot is questioned by some, but its simple design makes it hard to question its fashion. The most popular look seems to be showcasing the Uggs by tucking the jeans into them. Celebrities, such as Leonardo DiCaprio, can be seen sporting this look, especially at trendy spots like the Sundance film festival in Utah. So many fashion trends are driven by the high-profile of the people who wear a particular look, and Ugg boots are no exception. Unlike many inexplicable fashion trends, however, there is common sense attached to this one, as these are truly comfortable boots that are easy to put on and take off. Wearing a pair of Ugg boots provides a boost in self-confidence, knowing that the wearer is on the cutting edge of footwear fashion. There is also a certain status that comes from wearing Ugg boots. Since a pair can cost upwards of $200, wearing them sends the message that price is no object, and fashion is of utmost importance.

With that status, though, does come the benefit of practicality. Can't find clean socks? Not a problem, as the Uggs are comfortable enough to wear without them. Hard to bend over and tie boot laces with a heavy winter coat on? You don't have to with Uggs. Want to throw on footwear that works equally well with sweatpants as it does with a skirt? Uggs, Uggs, Uggs.

While there is the typical backlash that comes against any product that is considered trendy, there is no denying the popularity of Ugg boots. With the support of celebrities, it seems safe to assume that the popularity of Ugg boots is not going to diminish any time soon.
