Swarovski is the name of a family based crystal company located in Austria. The name has become synonymous with luxury-quality beads. The company was founded in 1895 by David Swarovski, who apprenticed under his father and learned the art of cutting glass. In 1892, he patented a machine that ran on electricity and allowed him to increase his production of crystal-cut glass. Although originally based in what is now the Czech Republic, David Swarovski soon moved himself and his company to Austria to take advantage of the hydroelectricity that was widely available. Swarovski Crystals are the finest cut crystals available. Noted for their color, cut, and clarity, the finer Swarovski Crystals can sometimes command prices that are equal to the price of diamonds. Celebrities clamor for products adorned with the beads, ranging from Swarovski Crystal adorned clothing, to figurines, to fashion accessories. In addition, many celebrities use them in their stage costumes. Examples of Swarovski Crystal adorned costumes include: Madonna, who used over 1.5 million Swarovski Crystals in her "Sticky and Sweet" Tour in 2008. Evening bags can be purchased that are accented with Swarovski Crystals on the strap, as well as high-heeled shoes that contain Swarovski Crystals on the ankle straps. For evening glamour, consider purchasing a pair of stockings or tights that have added Swarovski Crystal embellishments. Besides jewelry and clothing, the Swarovski Crystal Company also offers figurines, vases, tea lights, and Christmas ornaments. All these are designed using the precision crafting and the crystal-cut facets that Swarovski is known for. Swarovski also carries a full line of home accessories which includes wine glasses, fruit bowls, and candelabras. For those who are ever in doubt about what to purchase for a special family member or for a special occasion, anything embellished with Swarovski Crystals is an elegant, affordable choice. Just look for the swan logo, which represents the House of Swarovski.
