When winter sets in, keeping your home warm gets too costly. This occurs especially in Maine real estate or Massachusetts real estate where the winter gets exceptionally cold. You can purchase some heavy plastic rolls from your local hardware store. After that measure the dimensions of windows and cut plastic slightly bigger than the actual height and width of windows. Use a duct tape to seal the window with plastic. While doing so, just make sure you are sealing the entire windowpane instead of just sticking some pieces here and there. After doing this, you will feel a difference in warmth. Much of the warmth is retained inside and you can save a huge sum on heating bills. Also, you can place door stoppers next to all of your doorways while the door is not currently in use. Try using just one door for entrance and exit in winter. By placing door stoppers beneath all doors, you can prevent chilly winds from sneaking through the bottom. Door stoppers can be bought or you can create your own with cloth, some heavy string, or sand. All you need to do is cut few pieces from some cloth material that can sufficiently cover the base of a door. The width of this cloth should be around 12 feet as you have to roll it over. You put sand in zip lock baggies and start rolling them inside the cloth piece. When the baggies are tightly rolled inside the cloth, sew a straight line to keep the bags in the cloth. Your homemade doorstop is ready. Just place it next to the door and trap heat inside. The unused doors in winter must be sealed properly with plastic. These can be your attic doors, doors in the basement, and doors of some spare bedrooms and also any other space in the house that is currently not in use. Even tell your family members to avoid those doors. As for the door in common usage, keep them shut when nobody is inside. This is done to prevent chilly winds from entering through any loopholes available. You will find the bedrooms are warmer most of the times as compared to spacious rooms. In this case, keep the bedroom doors open so that some warmth can travel to bigger rooms of your home. Ceiling fans are good at circulating the heat in a room. This way you can prevent the need to turn on the heater every time. Make sure the breeze blows through the fans in the reverse direction as opposed to summer. Using fans instead of heaters can incredibly decrease your bill. So go for these approaches to cut down your billing expenses in winter.
