Every year people visit Texas from all over the country and the world. More so than many states in the nation, Texas has a reputation for being bigger and wilder. While it may not be thought of as a party destination or a place that is typical for vacation, it offers a number of features that need to be experienced. If you are headed to Texas for business, be sure to take some time to enjoy everything the state has to offer. Regardless of whether you are a salesman, a scientist or you just work with coatings or sandblasting, you can use your free time to really enjoy the state and all it has to offer. Like most places, there are a few must-see attractions that everyone should do no matter how long they are in town or why they are there. No matter where you are coming from, why you are there or what your interests may be, try out these attractions while visiting the Lone Star State.

Texas is one of the few places on earth where you can find rodeos as if they were movie theaters. Average people spend time at the rodeo for entertainment. Like you might see a movie, a hockey game or a high school football game in your neck of the woods, people go to the rodeo in Texas. Of course, they also do those other things too, but when you visit Texas, plan an evening to take in a true rodeo and enjoy the fun, sport and socialization that goes along with it.

There are plenty of country songs about spending nights at the honkey tonk and when in Texas, it is something you should try out. A honkey tonk is a cross between a club and a bar, with a big dose of country and western music thrown in. There is a good chance there will be dancing and if you are so inclined, you may even want to jump in and enjoy an old-fashioned line dance. Early in the evening you may find lessons for the dances, so come early and get the hang of things before the real dancing begins.

Barbecue is served throughout the country and different regions have different ways of preparing the meat. Texas is no exception. You can get some great southern barbecue in the Lone Star State that is made like nowhere else in the country. Plan an evening out and seek out a local barbecue joint that is a favorite among locals. Ask around and plan to get your fingers dirty on delicious barbecued meat.

Finally, while in Texas catch a game. Texas is a big sports town and while in many counties high school football may reign supreme, there are professional teams that attract a lot of attention. If you are visiting during football season, check out the Dallas Cowboy's stadium and enjoy a game played on the big blue star. If it is summertime, you can see a Rangers or an Astros game, depending on where in the state you are visiting.
