How to Be a Great Writer: Luxury Pens, Great Literature and More

Communication is the one of the most important aspects of life. If you can't express yourself, you will surely be misunderstood, whether in your personal relationships or in the office. In business especially, it is important to be able to convey your ideas clearly and articulately. This is usually done in writing. Read on to see how to become a great writer.

1. Spelling: This is rather fundamental and isn't as important as the other items on the list, save for the fact that it creates for your reader a first impression of who you are. Remembering the i before e rule is helpful, and being able to distinguish between homophones (your, you're; to, too, two; and there, their) is also very helpful.

2. Practice: Keeping a diary or journal can be excellent practice in crafting the written word. Plus, it can be very therapeutic, especially if you've had a rough day, just broke up with your girlfriend, or lost a loved one.

3. Read: It doesn't really matter what you read, as long as you do. Magazines and newspapers are great, even certain blogs can be a good way to understand stylistic tendencies. But if you want to get more than entertainment from what you read, choose the classics. They're called that for a reason, and can help you craft a life philosophy based on love, beauty and righteousness. Tolstoy, Dickens, and Hemingway are just a few authors to get you started.

4. Tools: It's more difficult to take writing seriously and be consistently proud of your output when you're using cheap Bic pens. Ink flow, weight, and style are all important considerations when choosing a writing utensil. Some brands of luxury pens include Parker fountain pens, Waterman fountain pens, and Lamy Safari fountain pens.

5. Grammar: Eventually, you will have questions about grammatical rules. Since they don't teach grammar at school any more, don't feel bad about it. You can find the answers to whatever's plaguing you online and after studying, take note of the lesson the next time you sit down to write.

6. Proofread: The most important part of writing is editing. Too often do we omit words, not catch a slip by spellchecker, or simply have a bad flow in a sentence. If you find yourself breezing through while you edit only to have to come back later to your errors, re-read your work aloud. This will help you gain a sense of what sounds good.

7. Let Others Read: If you're really proud of your work, you should have no problem reading it to friends and family or letting them read it. Even if it's an important document for work, letting a co-worker or secretary check it is a good idea.

Becoming a great writer takes years of hard work. You won't get there easily, but if you did, what fun would it be?
