The Persian rug has always been in great demand. It adds color to any room it is placed in. if you are interested in buying one, it is better to learn a little bit about them. Real Persian rugs are made in Iran. You can of course find imitation carpets that are made in India, Pakistan or Turkey. Persian carpets are mostly produced in Isfahan, Nain, Tabriz and Mashad. Persian carpets can further be categorized into city Persian carpets and tribal Persian carpets.

Persian carpets or rugs are very different from oriental rugs or carpets made in any other country. They are known for their intricate floral designs. They are usually dyed using vegetable pigments, thus giving them long lasting color. Moreover, these carpets are made of high quality wool. Oriental carpets, on the other hand, are made of silk.

Persian carpets can be bought online or through a retail store. When buying these wool area rugs online or offline, you have to first make sure that you are dealing with a reputable dealer. Those who offer unrealistically huge discounts should be avoided.

Buying The Right Size

Once you have found a reputable dealer, you need to figure out the right size. The size is especially important if you are buying the rug for your living room or the hallway. You would like to make sure that the carpet fits properly between the sofas. If, on the other hand, you are buying the rug for the hallway, you need to make sure that it covers the hall from one end to the other.

If you are looking for carpets for your kitchen, bedroom or entryway, you can opt for modern rugs made of wool. Since these carpets are not as expensive as Persian carpets they are ideal for these places. Wool area rugs are often preferred in kitchen and near fireplaces because they are easy to clean and maintain.

Quality Of Wool

Coming back to wool area rugs, the next thing you need to look at is the quality of the wool used. Remember that in Persian carpets only high quality wool is used. Keep a look out for imitation carpets that are made of acrylic wool.

You should also keep in mind that best quality Persian carpets are hand made. So always ask the dealer where the carpet is made. When it comes to identifying a real rug (Persian), one should look at the knots. Persian knot is very different from the knots that found in carpets made in other countries. Also remember that knots can only be found in city Persian carpets and not in the tribal Persian carpets.

The Age

Finding the age of the rugs is also very important. The older the rug, the more expensive it is. A good and reputable dealer will allow you to return the rug within a certain framework of time. Also, remember to get the cleaning and washing guidelines from them. A real rug (Persian) will last you for a long time, if you follow proper cleaning and maintenance instructions.
