If you want to decorate your house and give it a cozy and elegant look, nothing serves the purpose better than fine traditional rugs. Thick Oriental or Persian rugs, with elaborate designs, lush colors, and intricate embroidery can liven up any room and give a luxurious, cultured feel to it. Traditional are rugs can be found in a stunning range of colors, designs, fabrics, and shapes.

How To Buy Traditional Rugs

Traditional rugs may be hand-made or machine-made. Just because you want an authentic beautiful Oriental or Persian rug does not mean you have to cut a deep hole in your pocket. You can find traditional carpets that have discounts and sale offers. That way you don't feel the pinch when you purchase a luxurious carpet.

Buying it online is also a good idea since you can check and search countless designs and their prices and other details. Also, before you buy a rug, analyze what you need and what particular function that rug must serve. For example, if you are looking for adding a dash of color and accent to little spaces and corners in your house, you will need a smaller rug than if you were looking for a beautiful centerpiece for your huge living room. Similarly, think about the shape. If you need to decorate your office, you may want to go for circular, square, oval, or rectangular rugs. On the other hand, if you are looking to decorate your hallways, galley kitchens, or stairs, rug runners are the ideal choice.

When buying a traditional rug, it is also important to look at the colors dominant in your home and office. Then pick a rug that either goes with the existing colors, or brings a new complementing accent to the colors of your space. They are available in a range of elegant, timeless, and gorgeous colors, including red, navy blue, maroon, black, brown, beige, green, and white.

Next, consider the design motifs you like. Typical traditional motifs for rugs include paisley designs, flower or tree motifs, animal print designs, fish designs, hunting scenes, vase patterns, geometrical figures, tribal designs, stripes, spirals, historic monuments etc. Motifs may be bold and big-sized, or could be delicate and small designs.

Traditional Rugs: Weaves And Fabrics

Rugs may be hand knotted, flat woven, hand tufted, or machine-made. In a flat woven traditional rug, the design is brought out by the base of the rug instead of the pile or the long piece of flowing material on the surface. The pattern is made by tightly intertwining the weft with the warp.

Hand tufted traditional rugs are created with the help of a hand-used tool that weaves pieces of wool into a canvas spread that is stretched over a frame. This canvas contains the design of the carpet that the rug-maker fills with colored wool. The frame if removed once the carpet is fully piled. In a hand woven traditional rug, unlike a hand tufted rug, the fringe is the corner of the warp strings going from end to end of the carpet.

Traditional rugs may be made of natural fibers like wool, cotton, and silk, or synthetics like nylon or polypropylene.
