It is possible to market a business on the internet with great success, especially if you know what you are doing. Get it right, and you can have a lot of traffic that converts into sales. Do things wrong and you will either have a lot of traffic and no sales, or no sales and no traffic. To avoid this scenario, it is important to keep a few things in mind. First, it is all about pre-selling. In the offline world, making a sales pitch is pretty much how things are done. The internet is a different game because people go online primarily to look for information. Your job is to simply give them the information. After you do that, you can kindly suggest to them a resource or product that will help solve their problems even further. Remember, people online either want a solution to their problems or they simply want to learn something. So, how do you take advantage of this? The answer to this question is to research your keywords. There are two ways to do this. The first is to find keywords related to the information you want to give. The second, and better way is to learn how to identify keywords that are considered to be "buying" keywords. When someone searches for a "buying" keyword, they are one click away from making a sale. For example, if you want to buy a digital camera, you will research several different models. Once you have narrowed it down to one or two different cameras, you may plug the exact model number into the search engine. That model number is a "buying" keyword. The problem is, it is a big error to direct this traffic to a sales page right off the bat. You still need to give them information. Direct them to some helpful content that will help them make a buying choice, like a review or a product comparison. If they like what they read, they will reward you with a click and maybe even a sale. How does this translate to your existing business? Think about your products in terms of "solutions to problems" and go from there. Once you know why people need your product or service, you can frame your content to highlight that. In order to successfully market your business online, it helps to understand that the internet is vastly different from the offline world. Adapt this principal to your marketing efforts and you will be successful.
