Having a auto insurance is an integral part of being a responsible driver. Getting caught driving without an auto insurance is one of the most risky things that might happen to you, it can be a much more burden to your bank accounts and you would surely not want to serve some years in jail. One of the risks on having no auto insurance is financing. When getting a loan for a car, the lending companies that will finance the vehicle will require you to have an insurance. The primary reason for this is that when you encounter a traffic mishap and your car becomes a complete wreck, they would be able to retrieve some if not all of their money back. It the insurance is cancaled then you got involved in a traffic incident, then you would still be paying for your auto, so it's very hard to imagine that you would still be paying for your vehicle that you are no longer using or can't be used anymore. The most basic reason of not having an auto insurance is most likely the lack of funds. Auto insurance can be demanding on the pockets, especially for young or student drivers who don't have a stable source of income. Another possible reason is that some people may have a challenging time getting one, probably due to poor credit reputations. Also, someone will have a hard time getting one if he is considered under the high risk category like someone who has history of multiple accident claims. So learn about the penalties you might get for being caught not having an auto insurance. Suspension of registration In most states, the automobile coverage is approved by government agencies like the Department of Motor vehicles. If in a certain state, the department is notified that the auto's policy is no longer in use, then they would suspend the registration until proof is provided. Auto insurance companies are required to notify the department if the owner's coverage has been cancelled. Pay a fine The penalties for being caught without an auto insurance are different in each state, but most require that vehicles must be insured in order to avoid paying a fine which may not come cheap. In most states, you will pay as high as $200 for the first offense and it gets highest for any subsequent convictions. Suspension of driver's license Not only can this problem be heavy on the wallet, you can also receive suspension of your driver's license. You can't drive for quite sometime, and worse, your auto may be subjected to impoundment as well. Court appearance and imprisonment You may also be asked to appear on court. The judge has also the right to confiscate your license if you're caught not driving without it as well and the cost to retrieve it may not come cheap. You could also be jailed for at least a year and at most, 5 years. To summarize it, though getting an auto insurance can be strain on the budget, then think again how much it would be stressful to your time and money if you are caught not having one.
