An Interesting Account of Mickey Mouse

We all know that Mickey Mouse is the most famous mouse in the world, and that he was one of Walt Disney's earliest creations. Few people have taken much note of the history of Mickey Mouse over the years, and since most already know his early history, here are some of the other facts you may or may not already know.

Mickey was very successful in the 20's, 30's and 40's and by the 50's he even had his own theme park. He also featured in his own newspaper comic strip and The Mickey Mouse Club, which was a hit television variety show that launched the careers of a lot of teen stars like Justin Timberlake and Annette Funicello.

Disney then started launching movies like Bambi and Sleeping Beauty which took all the spotlight away for a while, and Mickey Mouse faded into the background for a while. He made his last cartoon short in 1953 called The Simple Things, and remained out of work for thirty years. He made his comeback in 1983 with Mickey's Christmas Carol.

Although Mickey was out of work for all those years, his ears remained very popular cultural icons. Mickey Mouse has managed to get a photograph with all the US Presidents since Harry Truman as they passed through the Disney Theme Parks. The only one he never posed with was Lyndon Johnson, as he never visited the theme park.

Just about every child in the world over the age of three knows who Mickey Mouse is. The Mouse also has his own line of merchandise, and although sales have dropped off a little since the high in 1997, Mickey's merchandise still accounts for 40% of Disney's consumer products revenue.

In Who Framed Rodger Rabbit in 1988, Mickey had a cameo role. He and Warner Brothers Bugs Bunny both got exactly the same amount of screen time down to the last second.

Mickey Mouse has also made an appearance in Sex and the City stretched across Sarah Jessica Parkers chest once. He also appeared in the PlayStation2 video game Kingdom Hearts. In 2006, he became 3-D for the first time.

You can still catch Mickey Mouse now on DSTV on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, which is an early morning television show. Take a trip to Disney World, and you too will be able to shake his over sized gloved hand.
