Is Your Car Tire Going Through Tread Wear?

Maintenance of a car is challenging especially for those who are not familiar with the craft. You may have low cost auto insurance or any other auto insurance California, but there are some finer points that need some consideration. One such problem is that of tread wearing in your car tire.

How do you think a mechanic can diagnose the problem right after having a look at your car? For this, you need to know what exactly is indicative of tread wearing. In other words, you must have some knowledge of basics. Once you know them, reading tread wear becomes easy. There can be countless problems with your car tire which results in different types of tread wear. The good news is; there is easy remedy for most of them.

The central portion displays most of the damage rather than the outer tread. So check for excessive tread in that part of tire. It is a clear sign that your tire is consistently over-inflated. It is better to know the recommended tire pressure to avoid this problem. Once the acceptable pressure is known, you will be able to adjust the tire accordingly.

Also check if there is any excessive tread wear on the outer side of tire. In case, this part is more damaged than the inner tread, it is most certainly due to under-inflation of the tire. These conditions only appear only after repeated occurrences of improper inflation of tires. A word for the wise; match your tire pressure according to manufacturer's recommendations.

Another troublemaker is the issue of feathering. This phenomenon can be observed and felt where one side of tread is damaged more than the other one. Due to unequal distribution of pressure, this can result in round shape on one side and a sharp edge on the other.

Some people geared with the basics will agree that feathering is not always visible. At times, it has to be felt. Normally, the tread appear smooth when you run your hand over it. When it is worn out, you can sense the rough texture just by rubbing your hand over the tread. This problem can be corrected but first you need to know whether the wheel inset is in order.

In case you see tread wear appearing only on one side of the tire, then there is probably alignment issue. Not that you would not know about wheel alignment, but the wear starts immediately without you noticing it. In this case, the alignment has to be corrected.

Also, look for cupping in your tires. This happens when small cup like indentations appear. Usually cupping occurs when worn out suspension components are not replaced. When suspension parts like shocks, springs, ball joints worn out, they have to be replaced immediately.

It can be unsafe to drive a car with worn out tread. Under this situation, it is better to replace the tires altogether. Resort to this option only when the tread wear cannot be corrected. Otherwise, most of the times, it can do well with minor adjustments.
