How To Choose The Right Contact Lenses For Your Needs

With so many different brands, styles, and types to choose from, it can be difficult to figure out which contact lenses are the best fit for your needs. Some people need contacts to see better, others to correct a specific eye problem such as an astigmatism, and some people just want vanity lenses to change the color of their eyes. Regardless of your specific need, deciding which ones are the best choice doesn't have to be difficult. By answering a few basic questions, you will be able to narrow down your potential candidates. This includes looking at very concrete issues like acceptable price range or more preferential issues such as whether you want daily contact lenses, weekly, or monthly lenses. Here is a quick look at the key questions that you need to answer before making your final selection.

The first thing that you need to consider is the purpose of buying your contact lenses. If you only want them to alter the color of your eyes, then there is not much else you need to know. You can simply pick ones that look good and purchase those. However, if you have a specific need, then you will be pointed in another direction. For example, if you have an astigmatism, then you will probably end up looking into toric lenses. If you are only farsighted, then traditional soft contacts will likely be where you look next.

The second thing to consider is whether or not you have any special needs. This could be something severe like a particular allergy or it could be something much less "critical" like overall convenience For example, if you are always traveling, then you may not want to choose daily contact lenses because you may not want to have to carry a new pair with you all of the time. On the other hand, your eyes might be very sensitive or prone to infection, in which case daily wear contact lenses would be ideal.

At this point, you will likely have a fairly good idea about which type of contact lenses are right for you. That means that you can now look at price, brand, or both. Some people are very brand loyal when it comes to their contacts, whereas other people look only at the total price. You need to look at all of the remaining, available options and decide what is the most important, brand or price. From here, you should only a have a handful of options, at most, to choose from. The best part is that all of the remaining options are likely ones that will fit your needs, which means that there really isn't a "bad choice" left on your list.

Keep in mind that there are a number of variables that you can consider when deciding which contact lenses are right for you. However, by first looking at three basic variables, you will likely be able to create a very short list of potential options that will satisfy all of your needs. First you need to consider the purpose of the lenses and what you expect from them. Second, you need to consider any special or unique preferences such as daily contact lenses over monthly lenses. Finally, choose between brand loyalty or price-based competition. From here, every remaining option on your list should be able to fill your needs.
