The How-Tos Of Professional ID Card Printing

An identification card or ID card is a symbol of your company, so you'll want to make sure that it looks professional. If you want to print your own ID cards, you'll want to make sure to buy an id card printer that is easy to use but versatile enough to print a wide variety of id cards. If you want a specific type of card like an HID access card, you should be sure to buy a printer that will produce these types of cards.

One printer to check out is Fargo's DTC400e. It is a modular card printing system that allows you to print dual or single-sided photos, bar codes or digital signatures directly onto the card. The DTC400e contains an all-in-one ribbon cartridge. This combines the printer ribbon and the card cleaning roller in a single cartridge. Thus, you will no longer need to worry about the hassle of hard-to-load ribbons, separate card cleaning machines and indicator lights that will only serve to further confuse you.

There are also optional modules for the DTC400e that have different functions. One module can encode data onto different id cards such as contact and contactless smart cards, proximity access control cards and magnetic stripe cards.

If you work in a large office, you can share the DTC 400e in a network setting using the optional Ethernet or internal print server. Fargo recommends the DTC 400e for small to mid-sized businesses, K-12 schools, regional and local government agencies, and membership and loyalty clubs.

HID has made recent enhancements to the Fargo printers like the DTC400e in order to address important customer requirements, and improve the encoding functionality and overall user experience of using these type of printers. One new feature is the Raw Binary Magnetic Encoding option. This improves users' control over magnetic stripe encoding. There are now options to add leading zeros or reverse the bit order. This means that the resulting id card has been encoded for use in non-ISO card systems like the VingCard. Another feature is the improvement of the JIS II Magnetic Encoding Capability. The magnetic encoding now supports a wider range of characters such as 0x7e ("|").

To order the JIS II upgrade kit, remember, that the part number for the DTC400e feature is 054314. With the new upgrades, it is also easier to do rewritable print jobs. The printer now supports dual sided rewritable cards. Thus, the front and back of id cards can be erased and printed during a single print job. This saves the user the trouble of running the card through the printer twice.

Many Windows users have now upgraded their computers to Microsoft Vista 32-bit operating software. The DTC400e line now offers broader operating system support for this type of Microsoft operating system. It can now be used by people who have upgraded their Windows computer systems. All of these new enhancements are available as a free download. People who already own the Fargo DTC400e should go to the HID website and take a look at its product matrix chart. This will enable you to download and install the most up-to-date firmware and drivers.
