The water treatment system you have in your home is extremely important. This is the system that is responsible for removing impurities in your tap water. That could mean the difference between being healthy or not. There are several steps you should take before choosing your water treatment and purification system. Depending on the area you live in, the installation process can be fast easy or more involved. Either way, it is very important to do it properly.

The first thing you want to do is test the purity of your water. There are several ways you can do this. Testing the purity of your water will give you a baseline on what type of purification system you need. When you are planning a project like installing a water treatment system, it is best to have all the possible facts you might need. Different impurities require different methods of filtration.

Once you have that information, consult a plumber or a plumbing contractor and ask about the available systems. There are two major systems for water treatment. The first system is called a faucet mounted system. This is going to be cheaper to install and is fairly easy to maintain. The drawback is that you will need to change the filter on a regular basis in order to ensure that the impurities are being captured properly.

The other major system is one that goes directly in to your plumbing. This is referred to as an in-line water filtration system. The installation process is more involved and costly, but once it is in it will not require many filter changes. Speak to a plumber and see what system works best for your needs. They will be able to provide you cost estimates and you could decide for yourself.

Depending on the impurities found in your water, there are different elements of a water treatment system you might need. Again, this is something that plumbing contractors can advise you on. If your water tests high for things like chlorine or chemicals, a carbon filter will be needed.

If you are testing high for sodium, lead, iron, or other metals, you might want to consider a reverse osmosis system. The drawback with this system is that it wastes a lot of water in order to get you clean drinking water. However, if you have that many impurities you might have no choice. Lastly, consider a water softener to improve the quality of your water.

Since this is an important project, don't be afraid to consult experts. Read up about the area you live in to see what minerals or metals are rich and potential threats to your water. Do background on plumbers to find one you trust and who will provide you with the best possible service. Make sure all of the equipment that is installed meets standards and keep all of your documentation.
