How To Change The Ambiance In A Room

When it comes to decorating a space, there are a lot of components that go into making it feel comfortable, stylish and inviting. If you neglect any of these areas, you may have a room that feels disorganized, empty or not very welcoming. If you are struggling with a room in your home that does not feel like it is part of the overall plan, there are plenty of ways you can help it feel better. First, make sure it is not a pit for items that do not fit in anywhere else. You may need to take a few days to clean and organize the space before adding anything to it. Once the space is clear of junk or debris, take a look at the lighting supplies. Your improvements may be as simple as purchasing a few lighting parts and adding a few lamps.

Next, stand in the room and take a deep breath. Does it smell musty and dirty, or is there no smell at all? You may need to add fragrance to the room to make it feel comfortable and appealing. If you do not have candles or scented items anywhere else in your home, head to the store and smell a few candles. Select a fragrance you like the most and try incorporating it into the space. You may not want heavy smells in the room, but you can add a scented sachet or a few drops of essential oil just to brighten up the smell. As you move through the space, you should catch a gentle whiff of the fragrance, encouraging you to stay longer and enjoy the feeling of the room.

Textures in the room are another important component of making it feel welcome. Even the most modern of decor calls out for something soft and inviting, so add a pillow or throw to the space to make it feel warmer. Be sure you are not overwhelming your senses with numerous textures. Those who have sparse homes may feel that a mixture of textures is too much, so add one or two items at a time until you find a balance you are comfortable with.

Color is just as important as texture, so choose the color of a room carefully. If something seems off about a room, try painting the walls a different color or adding accessories that brighten up the space. Balance is important when it comes to color, but you also want to focus on the overall feeling the main color of a space invokes.

Finally, consider what the room will be used for. This will help guide all of your choices in the other categories. If you want to relax in a room, you will need to choose relaxing colors, fragrances and textures. If you want the rooms to invoke passion or creativity, this will also affect your choices. Determine how you want to feel in a space and what you will be doing and then get to work creating a room that is conducive to your needs.
