Bikram Yoga comes from the traditional techniques of yoga. Typically referred to as 'hot yoga', Bikram yoga gained popularity with the start of the 70s decade. Bikram Yoga was founded by Bikram Choudhury who enforces copyright claims on all features. Many people are enticed to try Bikram Yoga classes because of the physical and psychological benefits. But before you join a bikram yoga program or practice this type of yoga elsewhere, you should know a few important facts about it.

It is aimed towards overall wellness and offers numerous benefits

Bikram Yoga promotes balance and proper functioning of all the different systems of the body like the nervous system, respiratory system and muscular system. When you practice Bikram Yoga, you reap numerous physical benefits. Some of them are reshaping your body and promoting weight loss; toning and restoring health to muscles; improving blood circulation, flexability, energy level and endurance; decreasing the risks of sports injuries; strengthening the spine; and providing relief from pain, stress and different anxieties. Yoga has many benefits: physical, spiritual, and mental.

It is practiced in a heated environment

Bikram Yoga has a distinctive practice environment. The room is heated from 32 to 45 degrees Celsius with humidity at approximately 40%. The sweltering climate of the room helps one to reap the different benefits that this type of yoga offers. It stimulates good blood circulation, relieves stress and tension and detoxifies the body. You should know that there is some debate about whether this yoga is safe due to possible dangers of vigorous exercise at high temperatures and humidity.

Beginners may experience certain side effects

Common symptoms for first timers or beginners include dizziness, fatigue, nausea, confusion or disorientation, body sores and cramps. Such side effects, such as a certain degree of dehydration, are part of this routine, and typically due to the workout conditions necessary to progress. However, you can either alleviate or even prevent most of the major side effects associated with Bikram yoga by wearing lightweight clothing, drinking a lot of water before and after the exercises, taking potassium in order to retain the water you do drink, eating light and healthy meals and resting before the yoga classes, and avoiding both caffeinated drinks and overly processed foods because these can hamper the body's ability to withstand the heat.

This is generally believed to be the intensest yoga practice

Bikram yoga involves approximately 26 postures and two breathing exercises, and each session runs about an hour and a half. Bikram Yoga demands focus and discipline and this is multiplied by the exercises being performed in a warmed environment which increases the challenge of this activity.

Bikram Yoga, like the other types of Yoga, requires dedication and discipline in order for participants to achieve the best results.
