If you're having problems with your Maytag dryer and aren't sure how to repair it, or don't want to risk making the problem worse, call an appliance repair company in Brooklyn. It will make things easier, however, if you can get an idea of what the problem is. Before you call, take a look at a few sample problems and possible solutions below so you can let the repair person know what he or she is dealing with. Problem: The spin drums but provides no heat Possible answers: Check for breaks in the fuse, temperature switch, thermostat, heating coils and timer. Problem: The motor runs but the drum won't spin Possible answers: Check for a broken belt (normally the culprit -- keep your ears open for a loud bang when you try to use it), an overly worn roller and a faulty motor or idler pulley (all you need to do is lightly tug on the pulleys to make sure they work okay. Problem: The dryer gets too hot (This one may be more serious than the other problems, as it could lead to a fire.) Possible answers: Check for a clogged vent, broken thermostat and heating coils. Problem: The dryer just won't turn on Possible answers: Check to make sure the machine is completely plugged in and that the power is on; make sure the thermostat, timer and terminal block are okay; also take a look at the start switch (it might just need to be replaced. Now when you call the appliance repair person he or she will be better prepared to repair your Maytag dryer. Also know that there are certain preventative measures you can take to try to keep your dryer in good working condition. Some of these measures are: Unplugging the dryer, to start. A lot of people don't think about it, but if you're doing any sort of maintenance on your dryer, you need to unplug the dryer. Making sure to clean out the dryer lint after every use. Just to be safe you should check it before starting a new load, in case you or someone else forgot to clean it out the last time. Also check the vent, the interior of the dryer cabinet and the area under the lint filter, at least once a year. A lint build-up can at best hinder the performance of your dryer, at worst catching fire; letting a highly-flammable material build up within a constant heat source is no good for anyone. Also dangerous, if the dryer is a natural gas dryer, it will release carbon monoxide that won't be able to escape through the vent, instead backing up into your home. Having a certified professional come and take a look at your dryer once a year to make sure everything is in working order.
