Getting into writing is not that difficult to do anymore, thanks to the internet. Now just about anybody can self publish using the internet as leverage. First of all to be successful in any business, you need to focus on the needs of others instead of yourself. This, in case you don't know, is just how it works. In any business your customers needs need to come first. The same goes for writing. If you write to entertain or help your readers you will be far more successful than if you are just writing for yourself. Writing for yourself is great, but don't expect to get published or even get any readers. Goal setting is essential in order to be successful. Ask yourself why you want to write. If you are doing it for the money, you won't have enough motivation to keep going when times are tough. Money is only a means to get what you want. Make sure you have definite goals, like a new house or a luxury cruise, and visualize these daily. When deciding what to write about, think along the lines of something that you know a lot about. If you do this you will gain credibility in the eyes of your readers, as you will become an expert in your niche. Unfortunately, most writers battle to earn a good living. If you write a novel, it could take up to two years to get published, and then you could wait even longer to get paid. Articles, if accepted, pay a pittance and you would need to do a lot to generate a decent income, baring in mind that not all of them will be accepted. Then came the Internet and with it the invention of ebooks. This changed writers' lives forever. Now it is possible to write a book, self publish it on the net, get others to sell it for you and you can potentially make a fortune.
