Celiac disease is a common genetic disorder that currently can only be treated by maintaining a gluten-free diet. Initially, medical scientists believed celiac disease was simply a rare childhood syndrome they would grow out of. Others even believed it to be a medical phenomenon. But it is now common knowledge that celiac disease affects many individuals or all ages.

In fact, the U.S National Institute of Health recently estimated that over three million people in the United States alone have celiac disease. Luckily for those few million, however, a totally gluten-free diet can effectively and efficiently keep the disorder in check, as well as its myriad of symptoms and consequences.

There are quite a few well-known celebrities who have publically revealed they are victims of celiac disease. And as odd as it may sound, it can often bring a person comfort knowing the people who appear larger than life are forced to deal with the same issues they are.

Some celebrities have begun to adapt a gluten-free diet as a means of maintaining their body weight. There are also some celebrities who maintain a gluten-free diet because they believe it offers a healthier lifestyle. However, if you see the following celebrities with their hands in a box of gluten free crackers, you can be sure it's not as a means of weight-loss.

Keith Olbermann - The NBC television host has been confirmed to have Celiac Disease. He first was recognized for his work as a sports broadcaster at ESPN. He know is the host of Countdown with Keith Olbermann, an hour-long political news commentary program broadcast in the evenings on MSNBC. And he apparently eats gluten free cookies.

Elizabeth Hasselbeck - The current co-host of the The View has also been confirmed to have Celiac Disease. She first garnered fame with her role on the CBS Reality Show Survivor: The Australian Outback. She has since judged the Miss Teen USA Pageant, hosted the Style Network's The Look for Less, and has been a co-host of the day-time talk show The View since 2003.

Drew Brees - The MVP of the most recent Super Bowl doesn't officially have celiac disease, but he is gluten intolerant, meaning he'd likely ask to share your gluten free snacks. Brees currently plays for the New Orleans Saints and is considered to be one of the top players, if not the top, at his position. And speaking of NFL quarterbacks, former Oakland Raider QB Rich Gannon's daughter, Danielle, has also been confirmed as to having celiac disease.
