Rodents are pretty disgusting. They have long tails, carry diseases and love to infest and, if left alone, destroy your home. This article is a guide to the different kinds of rodents you should be wary of, and know how to remove. 1. Mice: Mice infestations can leave your home susceptible to disease in many different ways. These rodents eat pet and human foods and their feces can be poisonous when left in food. They chew and gnaw at important electrical fixtures and wood properties and can cause major damage. Mouse glue traps are arguably not the most humane mouse traps, but they are the least messy. They run along walls and nest in small soft areas. 2. Rats: Even more disgusting than mice are rats. They spread the plague and once killed a third of the population of Europe. Rats are larger than mice and carry more diseases. Nests can destroy the foundations of buildings, and their filth can be seen everywhere, from tracks on floorboards to droppings in corners. Traps may not be effective here - you may need serious extermination. Seek a catchmaster or a series of catchmaster traps that include rat poison. 3. Squirrels: These rodents are less dangerous to humans than rats, but can be just as troublesome. You may have them in the crawl space of your attic or roof. They tear up insulation to create their nests and can gnaw on wires and woodwork. Their droppings can also be detrimental to your water tanks, if you have an infestation. To determine if you have an infestation, watch when they run along fences or across your lawn to see where they go. You may also hear scratching under your roof. 4. Burrowing Rodents: Gophers and voles, or field mice, can be damaging to your garden due to their quick reproductive cycles and their harmful eating of vegetation. They can be very harmful to farmers who rely on strong harvests for their income. Usually you can see holes in the ground and detect ravaged crops. 5. Beavers: These animals are pretty benign, but they can be detrimental to water supplies. Beaver dams can lead to flooding, washed out roads or bridges, and even water contamination. The best way to deal with beavers is to hire a catchmaster to take care of them. No man made structure benefits from rodent infestation. If you suspect an infestation in your property, you can take some steps to eradicate them. For smaller rodents, use baited traps to lure and kill them. For bigger suspected infestations, seek a catchmaster. And don't feel bad; it isn't as violent as it sounds - there are lots of humane mouse traps and other methods on the market.
