Winter is one of the harshest seasons and getting your house ready for the cold months that bring a variety of precipitation takes time. It is important to set aside a few hours before the temperatures plummet so you can avoid problems in the future. Weather-related home issues can lead to major expenses, so it is important to avoid problems as much as you can. For starters, make sure your appliances and pipes are all in good shape. Have your water heater looked at too, so you know it will last you through the harsh months of winter. Some of the biggest winter challenges you will face will happen outdoors. Keeping the conditions outdoors is a major part of having a pleasant winter season. Make sure your home is properly insulated by checking around doors and windows before the temperatures drop. If you find any drafty areas, plug them up with foam or fiberglass insulation. You can also cover your drafty windows with plastic and tape until you have the money to install higher-quality windows. Not only will the added insulation keep your space more comfortable, it will cut down on your heating bills over the winter months. Finally, be sure you are prepared for some winter fun. By the time the snow storms arrive, it will be too late to find sleds on the shelves. Buy your winter fun items early and also make sure kids and adults have snow pants, waterproof gloves and anything else that will keep them warm and dry while playing in the white stuff all winter long with friends and family.
