It's Time To Follow A Low Saturated Fat Diet For Your Health

People are always looking for ways to look and feel better. We are constantly searching for the illusive fountain of youth, and with all the research that has gone into this topic, it is possible to slow down the hands of time with good eating habits, healthy diet tips and a good dose of common sense.

The market place is full of hyped up products aimed at aging baby boomers, and one has to be very wary of false claims and promises. There is no such thing as a miracle product, but there are certainly good products out there that help to a certain degree.

The most important factor to staying healthy and 'younger' is the diet that you follow. Make sure that you get a variety of nutrients each day to meet all your bodies needs. Eating too much fat will rob us of our youth. The average person is said to eat about a cup and a half of fat every week. Distributed around your thighs - not a pretty thought.

Apart from putting on unwanted weight, other factors come into effect such as raised cholesterol levels, high blood pressure and diabetes. You also have increased risk of having a stroke. Most people refuse to watch their fat intake until it is too late.

Not all fats are created equal, and you do get essential fats that you need to stay healthy. Good fats or monounsaturated fats like canola and olive oils and polyunsaturated fats like corn and safflower oils are considered healthy if taken in moderation. Monounsaturated fats are the only fats that our body uses in a useful way, so we do need these to stay healthy, but remember the key is moderation. If eaten in large amounts, saturated fats can cause many health problems. These are mainly the fat which you find in dairy and meat products. You won't need to give up your favorite dairy and meat products totally, just eat them in moderation, and in their low fat versions. Trans-fatty acids are also another type of harmful fat, and they are found in margarine as well as in commercially baked goods and are used to make liquid fats into solids. These types of fats should definitely be avoided as much as possible.

Beware, as most of our meals have a combination of the above fats. Try following a low fat diet, and you won't believe how much better you will feel. By limiting your intake of saturated fat to no more than 10% of your food intake each day, you will greatly improve on your life expectancy rate.
