The SR22 Is An Important Corrective Measure For Irresponsible Drivers

The inexpensive auto insurance does come cheap and it comes cheap for a reason. This is a measure that tells the offending driver usually caught driving under influence of alcohol or someone who does not inform authorities about an accident he or she did within ten days that the State does not trust him or her any more. There is plenty of cheap car insurance for young drivers out there, but the SR22 definitely does not come cheap.

The filing of the SR22 form is a way to ensure that in the event this driver has another accident, there is enough insurance to take care of the damages. This clause requires that the driver stays under this type of insurance for a minimum three years if the license has been suspended depending on the severity of the reason for which it was suspended.

The minimum insurance requirement is the provision of $15,000 for injury/ death of a person, $30,000 for injury or death of more than one person, and $5,000 for property damage. When the driver files under the SR22 clause the premium for such insurance will be double or three times the regular amount. So, if the premium for regular insurance is $50, under the SR22 it would become $100 or $150 and this will continue for a minimum of three years and the driving record is clear of any citations or accidents.

Whenever such insurance is taken out, it become at duty of the insurance provider to let the State known if such an insurance lapses and is not renewed by the driver. It is an offense under the Law if the provider does not inform the authorities immediately when the lapse takes place.

Many problems could be averted if the driver understands how important it is that he or she do not drink and drive. A good majority of car accidents happen because young people choose to drink and drive. So many lives have been lost because people feel that they 'can handle it' after a party and get behind the wheel to drive back home.

Do not drink and drive. Do your best to prevent others from drinking and driving as well. If you are planning to go to a party where you will drink and have fun by all means do. But at the same time ensure that you have someone pick you up from the party or call a taxi.

It is important that people, especially those who fall into the age bracket of nineteen to twenty-four (males are more prone to accidents in this range), understand that they do not only put their own lives in jeopardy when they get behind the wheel inebriated, but also the lives of innocent people out there. The SR22 is a good way to remind an irresponsible person about their responsibilities when driving a vehicle.

When paying an inflated rate for insurance for more than three years post irresponsible behavior while driving is a good way to ensure that it will never happen again.
