There's nothing that makes an outfit like a piece of jewellery. Designer jewellery brings together the best quality with the most captivating designs. These designers don't follow trends, they set them. Below is a list of five types of designer jewellery and what makes them special. 1. Contemporary designer jewellery There are so many styles of jewellery currently on trend. Antique jewellery is well suited to a vintage look, while chunky silver and black leather cuffs work with a rock and roll image. In the necklace department, women have been wearing a lot of long, thin chains, usually with a pendant- or sometimes a few- at the bottom. These necklaces fall nicely between the breasts and can really elongate a woman's torso. 2. Designer pearl jewellery There is nothing more classic or feminine then a beautiful string of pearls. For an Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany's look, try putting on many strings of various lengths. Pearls are also a lovely piece to combine with other stones. Their light colouring makes them easy to pair with everything from coral to deep reds and blues. Pearl bangles can add a glamorous element to a rough denim, punky look. 3. Handmade designer jewellery There's nothing worse then choosing a beautiful piece of jewellery and seeing someone else wearing it. Jewellery is meant to be personal, and in many ways, gains more value for being unique. Handmade jewellery doesn't necessarily guarantee that it's a one-of-a-kind, but it does increase the odds. Moreover, jewellery made by hand generally has a more rustic look, as opposed to a manufactured one. If this is to your taste, it can be quite beautiful. 4. Designer costume jewellery Searching for costume jewellery is like sifting through the contents of a treasure box. These pieces are fun, usually oversized, and not for every day. They are the items that you find in your grandmother's drawer, or at a flea market. You saw something, you didn't know where you were going to wear it, but you knew that you had to own it, so you bought it. Which is perfect because now you have a ball or dress up party to go to and that big red rose broach, or funky choaker will go perfectly with your outfit! Have fun with costume jewellery- that's what it's there for. 5. Luxury designer jewellers We've all heard of Van Cleef & Arpels, Bvlgari, Cartier and Oscar Heyman. They are the best of the best. Their designs are immaculate- perfectly encrusted in diamonds, gold, pearls, and platinum. The pieces that come from luxury jewellery designers tend to be timeless. They build simplicity and elegance right in to everything that they make. Even their statement pieces- the wide cuffs and elaborate earings- will still be in style in a hundred years time.
