What is an XSLT Editor

For programmers, anything that will help to lighten their mundane tasks is looked upon as welcome relief. One great tool is an XSLT editor because it can make quick work of many of these projects that developers work on. XSLT is short for Extensible Style Sheet Language Transformation. It was first brought to the forefront in 1999 by the World Wide Web Consortium (or W3C), and works almost seamlessly with pages that are coded with the XML editor.

HTLM and XML are both significantly upgraded through their ability to use style sheets. This is not the only enhancement however, since the capability to use XSLT editor in the process of designing a program is quite remarkable. There are a great variety of applications that can be edited with XSLT, and for the most part they are free. This is great news for coders who can gain experience with the software and come up with new apps for people to use.

XML can be quickly edited using an XSLT editor due to the fact that it eliminates a lot of coding that has to be done repetitively. Of course documents are created much faster this way. There are a number of different features built into a particular editor and these can include previews of the product and even spell checks to make sure that a piece is right before release.

The first style sheets were developed specifically for HTML coding, and now have been altered for the unique version of XSLT. These were known as Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and worked great for HTML because designers did not have to manually update each line of code across a number of HTML pages since the same formatting could be used. While this was great for its time, there had to be some alterations made when XML became popular with users. As more people saw the benefits of XML, this became quite evident to insiders in this industry. XSLT is simply a great tool to be used for these types of purposes.

In the past, CSS was used strictly for formatting purposes. That was its main function. However, with XSLT, there were now more sheet styles to be used. Coders could now alter XML style documents to produce new ones quite easily. The actual content on the page was the same, but the actual document itself it new. These can be either XML or HTLM formats when completed.

An XSLT processor can be broken down into its basic components to see how it actually operates. It has the capability to output a new document from and old one, or combine two separate documents together and produce another one from these sources.

This makes XSLT editors a great resource for designers and has helped to pave the wave for this type of creative coding. They have made the creation of style sheets that much easier. It also has simplified the development of many types of applications. This is due a large part to the advanced level of efficiency designers now have when troubleshooting an application. Of course this has also help to advance the course of XML programming greatly as well.
