Common Problems Faced By College Kids

Heading off to college is an exciting time, but it can come with its own set of challenges and struggles. While most of your focus as a college kid will be on classes and friends, there will be times when you need to refocus and deal with an issue. Many of these problems can be anticipated and if caught early enough, will not create too many problems. It is important to know that regardless of how organized and responsible you are, you may still face challenges. Do not let them get you down. Rely on your family for support and if all else fails, view the challenges as learning experience. One of the first things you need to do is protect your ability to drive by purchasing cheap car insurance for young drivers. If you have made mistakes and you are no longer able to share your parent's policy, you may need your own inexpensive auto insurance. The important thing is to make sure you are adequately covered in case something should happen.

College kids are often tempted to use credit for making their purchases and before they know it, they are deeply in debt. Before signing up for credit cards or using credit you applied for before leaving home, understand what you are getting yourself into. Government programs have recently been created to protect kids from predatory lending, but it is still important to take responsibility for what you do. Speak with your parents about credit and how to manage it responsibly. You can also talk to your school's finance department about money matters. If you are struggling to make ends meet in college, there may be solutions that do not involve credit cards.

Kids at college are going to have lots of offers to enjoy socializing and partying. It is important to make friends and let loose occasionally. If you focus only on your studies and keep to yourself, you will not be getting the whole college experience, and while this method works for some, most people will regret not having more fun. The important thing is to balance fun with responsibility. Allow yourself a chance to enjoy time with your friends on the regular basis, as long as you can keep up with your studies.

A lot of kids, mostly girls, find they gain weight once they are in college. In high school, they may have been part of a sports team with regular workouts. The exposure to mess hall dining may also be tempting, or they may stock up on sugary snacks and pizza during finals week. Food may serve as an emotional comfort to them while away from home. If you are concerned about gaining weight during college, do not be too hard on yourself. Remember your body is still developing, even into your early twenties. Just do your best to stay active and eat healthy as often as possible. When swimsuit season rolls around, you will be motivated to lose those extra pounds.

Feeling homesick is a common challenge for college students. Find ways to adjust without totally letting go of your past. If it turns out you are no longer able to deal with feelings of homesickness, you may need to rethink your college plans.
