A Water Feature Adds Value To Your Home

Natural stone looks fantastic in a home or in a garden and drastically increases your home or your property's value. Since there is plenty of natural stone available, it is abundant and easy to find. There are numerous wonderful home improvement projects you can complete with natural stone and pavers. These include patios, walls for your garden, and walkways.

One natural stone project that adds a special ambiance to your home is a stone waterfall. Just think of how it will enhance your property when you create this special and unique feature. It can turn an everyday backyard into a tranquil retreat, great for relaxing mornings, afternoons, or evenings. Guests will also love coming to your home to see your waterfall, and it makes a perfect backdrop for outdoor parties, barbecues, and family gatherings.

In order to build a waterfall, you will need to create both the spillway and the pool to catch the water. You also may need to consider if your property has any kind of natural slope. This will make it easier for you to build your waterfall. You may also want to try building your waterfall near your patio so that you and your family will easily be able to hear the relaxing sounds every time you lounge outside. An alternative is to place your waterfall near your garden, which provides a calming sound and a beautiful sight for anyone who likes to garden frequently.

Once you procure the stone you want, you will need a pump, tubing, and a liner for the pond, in addition to some basic garden tools such as a shovel and a hose. You should also discuss your project with the utility suppliers to make sure the site you choose will not cause any problems with the utility lines and sources. You will also need to consult an electrician in order to install a unit to provide electricity to the pump.

You should take care of the pond portion of your waterfall first, because you will then be able to position your rocks in an overhang over it, instead of setting up the rocks and then creating a pool beneath them, which might cause them to fall. It is a good idea to use flatter rocks for the bottom portion, or the portion of the fountain that the majority of the water cascades over.

These types of rocks are more likely to send the water the place you want it to go. These types of rocks also typically make the flow of water look more attractive, and prevent the water from seeping back under the rocks. You can decide from among all sorts of flagstone and wallstone with all sorts of gray, blue, brown, and green hues. With so many different types of stone to choose from, you'll be creating a unique feature that will bring much pleasure to your family and your guests.
