Summer Job Options For Teens And College Students

If you or your child is searching for a summer job, there are plenty of options. If you are concerned about getting stuck behind a fast food counter with no other option, consider these choices before you begin applying for jobs. Many kids get stuck in low paying jobs like fast food service and newspaper delivery. While there is nothing wrong with kids making minimum wage for spending money, they may be bored or disgusted by what they are doing. Serving fast food is hard work and it may not be the best environment for a teen who struggles with maintaining a healthy diet. Newspaper delivery gets you out and about on your bike or on foot, but few newspaper companies are doing well enough to deliver that many papers each day. The good news is teens have plenty of options if they just look in unexpected areas. Kids can put their cleaning skills to work and work at a maid service or house cleaning company. Cleaning is hard work, but kids are indoors all day and avoiding many of the common temptations teens struggle with.

Another option for kids eager to earn some extra cash during the summer months is painting. Homeowners and businesses are often happy to pay painters and while professional painters have their positive aspects, student painters will often do the job just as well for a much lower price. As a teen, you can offer to provide painting services to neighbors or you can join student painting groups that work together to complete large painting projects in the community.

If you love spending time outdoors, there are plenty of options for teens and college kids to work in landscaping. Learning how to complete landscaping projects gives you a great start for a career in landscaping, or you can just use the knowledge to one day do your own great landscape for your yard while earning some money? Landscaping under the hot sun is back-breaking work, but if you are young and healthy, it might be a great option for you.

Responsible kids may have success freelancing and running errands for people they know and who they live near. You may not be able to find an official employer who will pay you to do this, but if you are motivated and enthusiastic, let friends and neighbors know you are free to take care of things like pet walking, grocery shopping, picking up dry-cleaning, and running a variety of errands. This can be fun for a kid with entrepreneurial spirit and it is a great way to make some money.

For those who want to focus on the pet portion of the errand running, you could just walk dogs all summer. People are usually happy to pass the responsibility of their pets off to others so they can focus on kids and work. If you are able to walk their dogs at mid-day, it will save them the effort of running home from work on their lunch break to take care of pet care.
