Evening primrose oil has come under the spotlight in recent years because clinical trials and research has shown that it has some very interesting health benefits. Not only that but is grows more like a weed than anything else, making it very available and easy to grow. Both Native Americans and early American settlers used evening primrose, and in more recent years, it's been linked to reduction of depression, headaches, heart disease, alcoholism, acne, depression, obesity, and other things.

So you see why taking it daily can clearly benefit a person's health. Evening primrose oil is also high in essential fatty acid content. This is a great addition. Because of a few corporate farming practices, cattle are often grain fed instead of grass fed, and because of that much of our healthy fatty acids have dropped out of our diets. According to research the average person is heavily deficient in the right kind of fatty acids. Our diet is full of unhealthy Omega 6 fatty acids, and absent of Omega 3s.

I want to hone in on a few of the unique benefits of evening primrose oil.

1. Rheumatoid Arthritis. Evening Primrose oil is a very interesting compound because of its ability to control the pain of conditions like Rheumatoid arthritis. Evening primrose oil is also being used to alleviate headaches. Inflammation and soreness that's associated with arthritis can be lessened by one of the rare chemical components of evening primrose oil. Not only that but it also contains a natural pain reliever phenylalanine, which assists in conditions that cause chronic pain. If you're experiencing joint pain, it's a great natural supplement to think about.

2. Alcoholism. I find it interesting that evening primrose has been studied in relation to alcoholism. Apparently evening primrose oil has been shown to reduce the withdrawal symptoms of alcoholism, making it easier to overcome. It does this again through the essential fatty acid compound. The essential fatty acid prompts the brain to produce a hormone-like substance, prostaglandin, that helps prevent the symptoms of withdrawal from arising.

3. Depression. That same compound which helps fight the symptoms of withdrawal also helps curb chronic depression. Essential fatty acids are great for regulating the various hormones and other chemicals in the body, and often can help with slight imbalances that can affect our moods and attitudes. To be healthy, both mentally and physically, it's vital to get the right assortment of essential fatty acids in your diet. Like we talked about earlier, they don't come readily through our diets anymore.

Evening primrose oil has even more benefits for regulating the body's chemicals. It has demonstrated to help control hyperactive children, and has been used by women to help lessen some of the effects of PMS and endometriosis. Evening primrose oil is therefore a very good preventative drug. Keeping the body's chemicals in proper alignment is essential to balancing moods and attitudes. If you're not getting the right nutrients in your diet, the chemicals produced and utilized by the body might start to gain slight imbalances. If you're already experiencing conditions like that, take some evening primrose oil before running to pharmaceuticals. Consult a doctor if you know that you have a pre-existing condition such as seizures, and make sure that you read and follow the directions on the label.
