Packing Only The Essentials

Going on a camping trip with friends or family can be a nice getaway once in a while. Without the television and the constant need to be texting or calling people, you can have a nice relaxing vacation in nature and get away from that hectic life. Camping is not for everyone, however. If you like hiking, canoeing, or just being outside, it could be a very fun experience. If you hate bugs and do not like the idea of roughing it for a few days, camping is probably not the right thing for you and that is alright too. Before you go camping, you will need to go to an outdoor store and purchase camping supplies and outdoor camping gear.

There are a few definite things that you will need for camping. A tent is the most obvious item that you will need. This will generally be the most expensive item on the list of things to buy. Depending on when you are going to be camping, it is important to get sleeping bags that will be appropriate for the weather. Camping is not like any normal trip you will be going on. Since you will not have electricity, do not bring hair blow dryers, phones, or anything that is unnecessary. It is smart, however, for one person in the group to have a cell phone for emergency purposes, but if you go to a campground that will not be an issue.

The first thing to do would be to make a list of the things that you need to buy and the things that you already own. Remember that you will only need necessities like a toothbrush, shampoo, clothes, and any feminine hygiene products. The group will be responsible for the food and the tent or anything that you will all be using. Since the camping gear takes up a lot of space, packing lightly is the best way to go. You are going to be outside and no one will care what you look like so do not pack to impress anyone.

As far as food goes, anything that you buy that will go bad will need to be put in a cooler and filled with new ice every few hours. If this is not something you want to deal with then only bring food that you will not have to worry about going bad. Another thing with the food is that it must be stored properly because little critters like raccoons are very smart creatures and they will find ways to get into your food if it is not stored properly. The best way to avoid this is to keep it in tubs and put them in your tent or in enclosed areas. Also, if you have pets, do not leave their food out at night because the animals will also get into that.

Camping can be a lot of fun if you are the type of person who can handle being outside for longer periods of time. For some people, it is not their ideal vacation. Remember these few tips and you will be sure to have a fun camping experience.
