Watches: Timeless styles

[Valid RSS feed]  Category Rss Feed - http://www.articlesbacklink.com/rss.php?rss=1
By : Eddie Prentice

People have been keeping time for thousands of years. The Ancient Egyptians would divide the day into two twelve-hour periods, using large obelisks to track the Sun's movement. (Cloudy, rainy days made telling the time very difficult back then.) Water clocks, candle clocks, timesticks, and hourglasses were also popular in the regions China, Japan, England, Iraq, and Europe respectively.

Mechanical clocks were invented in Europe around the beginning of the fourteenth century. They were considered revolutionary until the sixteenth century when spring-powered pocket watches emerged on the scene. This was followed by the invention of pendulum clocks, quartz oscillators (now wristwatches), and atomic clocks (the basis of Coordinated Universal Time).

Designer watches:

Omega:

The people at Omega think of themselves as pioneers. They have visited other planets and plunged to the bottom of the ocean, and because of it are constantly re-defining the mechanical art of watch making.

Casio:

The people at Casio believe that innovative products help people in their daily lives and keep society moving forward- when new products are developed, new markets emerge, and related industries are able to grow.

Cartier:

Cartier, as we know it today, developed in 1847 Paris. In 1888 the first bracelet watches for women were created. By 1900 royals and aristocrats from around the world were buying neoclassical diamond jewels form Cartier. In 1904 they created a wristwatch with a leather strap. To this day they are one of the most exceptional and influential jewellers in the world.

Rolex:

The movement of this classic watch moved from self-winding to chronometric precision, to professional, to the birth of waterproof watches. Rolex now has a prescence worldwide and is very much associated with wealth, luxury, and unparalleled style.

Swatch:

Swatch claims to be the saviour of the Swiss watch industry. Why? Because they were the originators of the slim plastic watch made of only 51 components (instead of the usual 91). They combined quality with affordability at a time when no one else was doing it.

Bvlgari:

What could be better then the combination of Swiss technical innovation and Italian design? Bvlgari's creations are bold, they're beautiful, and they are sophisticated. The quality never suffers, the pieces are elegant and their service is unmatched.

Time is a funny thing. It guides our days, our decisions, and our lives. Nowadays young people aren't even wearing watches anymore- they are too single functional. Why wear a watch that only tells the time when you could carry a phone that receives phone calls, texts messages, plays music, games, videos, takes pictures, and tells the time? Well, maybe because watches are beautiful and one of the most classic piece of jewellery...
