How To Make Your Garage A Useful Space

[Valid RSS feed]  Category Rss Feed - http://www.articlesbacklink.com/rss.php?rss=92
By : Stewart Wrighter

Many homes have garages and they are often the most under-utilized space in the house. The cars get parked, the bikes get stored, and everyone ignores the space unless they are looking for something that has been tossed into the room. Garages are often bigger than they need to be for the vehicles the family uses, and if you want to take advantage of your garage space, there are a few things you can do. Wall storage systems and a built in cabinet system gives you a way to organize things you want to store in your garage. Because the systems are connected to the walls of the garage, there is still plenty of room for the vehicles and space to move.

Garages are also a great place to keep larger items that do not fit in the house, but are not safe outside for example, if you have bikes, a boat, or other recreational vehicles, find space in the garage for them. Some people are able to create a space over the cars for items like this. It is also possible to hang items like bikes on hooks. This will protect these items from the elements, as well as from anyone who would be willing to walk off with something they do not own. Garages let you shelter the items without having to bring them into your house, tracking in dirt and other unwanted materials.

If you plan to handle home improvement projects yourself, the garage is a great place to store materials and create a workspace. Some work you will have to do inside the house, but if you have a place for sawing, sanding, and building, it will cut down on the mess you create indoors. The garage is also a great place to store tools, equipment, and things like extra nails and screws. Be sure you keep these items organized so you know where to find things when you need them.

The garage is also the perfect place for storing garden and lawn equipment. The weed cutter, lawn mower, and gardening equipment can all be kept in the garage, protecting them from the elements but keeping them out of the house. Some people use the basement for these items, but if you have a garage, you can prevent damaging a part of your basement with grass stains, dirt, and possible oil or gas spills.

It is important to understand how gas and oil interact with other things in the garage, including your car and anything flammable. The garage is a great place to keep things that need protection, but when you combine a mix of items that would normally be stored in the garage, it can be dangerous. Do your best to let things cool down before replacing them in the space. Clean up spills as soon as they happen and keep a fire extinguisher in the space. Also avoid storing items that are flammable in the space like paint cans and certain liquids. This way you can have a safe, comfortable garage.
