Axo sportbike motorcycle helmets are carefully designed and crafted from the most modern materials to provide today's rider with the best protection available. Whether you are cruising the pavement or racing on the dirt in a moto cross competition, you need a good helmet. The quest for the right helmet is almost as old as humankind itself. Assyrian warriors wore helmets made of heavy leather or bronze a thousand years before Christ. They recognized the threat arrows, stones, swords and bludgeons represented on the field of battle and they dressed accordingly. They needed a helmet that would provide a high level of protection without obstructing their visibility, breathing or hearing. In addition, it had to be comfortable enough and lightweight enough to wear all day without undue fatigue. Technological progress did not reduce the need for helmets. After almost a century of peace, World War I broke out reminding soldiers that head protection was a vital necessity. The years of peace and the advances in the lethality of firearms led to a de-emphasis of armor including helmets during the nineteenth century. It was believed that effective armor would be too heavy and too expensive. Soldiers in ceremonial units still wore decorative helmets but protective headgear was not deemed practical until 1914. Then, soldiers wearing uniform caps came under artillery fire, which burst over their heads and showered them with hot splinters and fragments of metal called shrapnel or flak. Metal dishes were stuffed under the caps for whatever protection they offered and steel helmets shaped like hats or bowls were mass-produced and provided to the soldiers. They provided adequate protection and ushered in a century of steel helmets. Although axo sportbike motorcycle helmets were not developed for battlefields, they are constructed of the latest synthetic fibers available. Steel is not always the best material for protective headgear. By the end of the twentieth century, new synthetic fibers were being developed which were lighter and stronger than steel. The Kevlar helmet used by soldiers and police officers around the world is such a synthetic fiber. It offers better protection than steel at a lighter weight. It also offers more flexibility in shape and design. Motorcycles are used under a wide variety of conditions, but all of them share the need for good head protection. A well-designed helmet provides this by joining a hard outer shell to a softer shock-absorbing liner. The materials used to construct the helmet must work as a system to dampen and absorb impact rather than transferring it to the wearer's brain. Although these new outer shells don't need to deflect flak or shrapnel, they could as their successful use by military and police units around the world demonstrates. The helmet is a system. These new materials allow a good, protective system to be developed to meet the challenges of many different kinds of riding from motocross to cruising. A good helmet still needs to be comfortable, light in weight that is designed so that it does not obstruct vision, hearing or even breathing.
