When a person's thyroid gland does not supply enough amount of thyroid hormones, they will get a condition called Hypothyroidism. Before you are given medication, you need to undergo series of tests because identifying the signs and symptoms of thyroid disorder is the key to proper diagnosis and treatment. The condition of Hypothyroidism is categorized according to its signs and symptoms. The symptoms can be categorized as either early or late onset. Increased temperature sensitivity, weight gain, goiter, fatigue, even depression and suicidal thoughts are some of the early thyroid symptoms. Often symptoms that occur later are dangerous. These symptoms must be checked immediately by a medical professional. If you are having unusual menstrual periods, have a hoarse voice or slow speech, you may be experiencing the signs of hypothyroidism and so you must be checked by a physician. There are some signs of thyroid disorder that are not as common such as poor cognitive skills and memory loss, low sexual drive, facial puffiness and yellowish skin color. These symptoms must not be ignored or overlooked when you consult to your doctor. As with many medical conditions some symptoms can be due to a number of causes ranging from minor ailments to life threatening diseases. You don't have to panic but you must visit your doctor as soon as you experience any of the signs. Some individuals are at more of a risk of thyroid problems. Anyone who has been diagnosed with bipolar dissorder, ADHD or anxiety plus those taking lithium based mood stabilizers have a higher likelihood of thyroid symptoms. People with these pre existing conditions would already be well-monitored by their doctor so they should raise any of these symptoms that may be caused by hypothyroidism. If your doctor determines that you indeed have a Hypothyroidism, you will be given a plan with detailed treatment instructions. The common treatment is the administration of triiodothyronine or thyroxine either orally or by injection. Never allow thyroid problems to ruin your entire life. You will be back in control once you identify the problem and take action. You must consult your physician for the appropriate treatment for your specific condition.
