How to Party: The Lesson Mexico Teaches the World and 79.5 Million Baby Boomers

Regardless of the fact that the media is promulgated by reports of border wars and drug cartels in Mexico. Slammed by everything from drug wars to the swine flu scare, Mexico's recent 200th anniversary of the uprising that led to Mexico establishing independence from Spain created a large scale positive change in attitude for all that is south of the border.

As mariachi bands blared Cielito Lindo, El Jarabe Tapatio and Guadalajara at a party in the zocalo (main square) of Mexico City a million and a half people yelled "Viva Mexico" as they waved flags, sang and danced. Travel Editor Bob Schulman was there to report on the goings on first hand.

Schulman who was one of the founders of Frontier Airlines oversees a stable of travel journalists who write monthly for his co-owned online magazine. Referring to the type of trip favored among baby boomers, ages 46 to 65, the travel section of the free online magazine is called "Getting Warmer". The Huffington Post runs Shulman's articles and those of contributors.

Besides the appeal of destination updates, the e-zine has cornered the travel tips market with little known travel facts that professional travel aficionados like Schulman know but until now were hesitant to share, things like the fact that there's a quick way to find out which airlines can take you where you want to go. Visit passrider.com (a site used by airline employees to help plan their trips) and simply enter the city you're flying from, your destination and the day you're leaving. A screen will come up showing uncluttered, one-line listings of all the flights between the cities you entered, their routings (including connections, if any) and how long they take. Once you've picked the most convenient flights you can start checking fares on the websites of the listed carriers.

If you're making travel plans and don't know the airport code for the city you're traveling to or from, go to iata-airport-code.com.

And if you aren't sure which seat to pick when an airlines gives you that pre-flight option, go to seatguru.com for a candid review of the seats that feature non-reclining seat backs, limited legroom, are adjacent to the restroom, etc. Voila, you'll know exactly where you want to sit by simply entering your airline and flight number. And admit it, everyone has a preference when it comes to window or aisle seat. And nobody, almost nobody wants the middle seat in a row that already has bookends.

Travel these days changes as much as anything else. Skip too many months and you're certain to be surprised by the newest technology install at the airport when you show up for departure. You won't have to stand in extended lines at the counter like you used to if you take full advantage of downloading boarding passes at home instead. Using technology on your side, a baby boomer can check in and check bags with a self-serve touchscreen shortcutting the wait in line.
