In addition to the many different types of screws that can be used for different reasons, the ball screw is perfect for medical uses and in labs since it is quicker, more precise, creates a quieter environment, can hold a higher load and is easily available. Laboratory and medical equipment worldwide show a preference for it through their constant use of them. They are selected over other screw types because of these reasons: Greater efficiency level The major parts of a ball screw are a nut, a tool on which the ball rotates, and a motor which rotates the screw. This type of screw achieves a better efficiency rating, approximately 90 percent, due to the way the nuts follows linear rolling movements along the shaft. This is very efficient technology that produces ball screws that are perfect for medical and lab applications because, as compared to other types of screws, they create less friction and are more efficient. Compared to a lead screw that slides, it can roll with only a third of that driving torque. Superior precision Reliable and accurate laboratory and medical equipment is a necessity. The movement of a ball screw is smoother, more defined, and very precise, thanks to it's rolling motion. The arrangement of the parts of the screw is also done in such a way that it minimizes mechanical wear and tear, reducing the need for ball screw repair without sacrificing reliability. Reduced noise performance capability Since the ball screws contain a smooth rolling movement, large motors don't have to be used to drive the screw. Small sized motors are able to take care of the job, making a silent activity which is suitable for medical and laboratory applications. Ball screws have many features, one being their ability to reduce noise. Ball screws have a higher load bearing capacity Ball screws are quite small, but they can carry big loads. This will make them smaller so they can be used in smaller equipment and in those instruments that are used for medical purposes and in lab applications. There are a vast number of options available. Rolled ball screws are available in diameters of 6mm to 16mm, and leads of 2 to 12.7. Aside from ball screws that are specifically designed and measured for medical purposes, they are also found in diameters of up to 63 millimeters, and with leads of up to 50 millimeters. For inch dimensions, they are available starting at 1/4 inch in diameter with leads starting from 1/10 inch to 1 inch. Some other choices available also include the length of the screw, preload nuts, various materials, and other special construction. Because they are more concerned with efficiency, accuracy, reliability, and performance, medical and laboratory applications feel the extra price paid for ball screws is worth it. Over time, it will be possible to conserve costs on screw repair and upkeep.
