Rosacea usually targets people over thirty, and is often confused with adult acne. Rosacea symptoms include a red flushed appearance, and pimples.

Rosacea is one of those skin conditions that not too many people know too much about. Some people do not even realize that they have rosacea.

One reason for this is that the symptoms of rosacea are not always the same and different things can cause this skin disease in different people. Outbreaks are sometimes influenced by environmental triggers, the most common being sun and hot weather. What you could think is ordinary sunburn, or a rash of pimples could in actual fact be rosacea. Humidity and stress can also pay a role. You could also trigger rosacea by eating certain foods or using skin products that you are sensitive to.

It is believed that rosacea is caused mainly from living a stressed and unhealthy lifestyle. Lack of sleep also plays a large role in developing this skin condition. Certain foods can trigger rosacea, including too much fat, rich foods, very spicy or acidic foods. Alcohol intake plays a role, as it dries out the skin, and when the skin is dry, it is prone to many skin conditions. Avoid caffeine, and that doesn't mean just coffee, but things like chocolates, and certain sodas.

If rosacea is left untreated, it will result in discoloration of the skin, as the enlarged blood vessels will form dark blotches. The nose will also become enlarged and red. Rosacea is quite a common skin condition and affects 1 in 20 people, but women are the most susceptible.

There are a lot of different treatments available for this skin disease, as people all get rosacea in different ways. Avoiding the triggers is the most effective method of control. At first it will be trial and error, until you figure out what is causing the rosacea.

Treatment of this skin condition ranges from laser therapy to home remedies. Erythromycin and clindamycin are sometimes used to treat rosacea as well as acne. A doctor could recommend a topical steroid, but one must be careful with these, and there are serious side effects. There are also prescription cleansers which can be used for six months at a time under a doctors supervision. As there are side effects, you will need to be monitored. Women using these cleansers need to be especially careful, because if they fall pregnant they could harm the fetus.

There is no cure for rosacea, but you can control it by avoiding the things that trigger the condition for you.
